Mckenzie Voted CSKA Player of the Season

The 2021/22 CSKA Sophia Gardens awards night took place on Saturday evening and the big trophy of the night went to striker and top scorer Cai Mckenzie as he was voted by his peers as Player of the Season.

It was a celebration of the good, the bad, and the ugly for CSKA with awards handed out in a number of categories. Unfortunately, a couple of individuals were unable to attend to accept their awards so their trophies/ medals/ prizes have been kept for them.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON

GOLDEN BOOT
Winner: Cai Mckenzie - 22 goals
2nd: Rich Hamlett - 7 goals
3rd: Jordan Lloyd - 6 goals
ASSIST KING
Winner: Cai Mckenzie - 9 assists
2nd: Aiden Martin - 7 assists
3rd: Rich Hamlett and Huw Williams - 6 assists
THREE STARS LEADER
Winners: Jordan Lloyd and Cai Mckenzie - 9 three stars wins
2nd: Huw Williams - 6 three stars wins
3rd: Ed Lewis and Aiden Martin - 5 three stars wins
GOAL OF THE SEASON
Winner: Cai Mckenzie - a 90th minute chest down and drilled effort vs Llanishen Wanderers in the 4-4 home draw.
2nd: Rich Hamlett - a curled strike from outside the left side of the penalty area into the top right corner of the net in the 2-1 loss away to Eastern Tigers.
3rd: Huw Williams - a solo effort that saw the left back carry the ball from deep inside his own half before smashing the ball home into the right side of the net in a 10-0 win versus Glamorgan AFC Reserves.
DEFENDER OF THE SEASON (new combined award with goalkeepers also eligible)
Winner: Jordan Lloyd
2nd: Huw Williams
3rd: Alex Skinner
CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR
Winner: Ceri Jones - awarded for his willingness to play in a number of positions during pre-season and the regular season including centre back and keeper despite carrying an injury and then still attending games to film matches when injury prevented him from playing.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
Winner: Frazer Richards
BANTER KING
Winner: Owen Lewis
PURPLE HEARTS (debut award for those players that had their season significantly shortened due to injury)
Winners: Andy Palmer, Kris Dolby, and Owen Kingsbury
BROWN ALE MOMENT OF THE YEAR
Winner: Dan Owen - double handball that led to him being sent off after just 10 minutes in the Milsom Harries Cup Quarter-Final 6-0 away loss to Fairwater FC.
2nd: Jordan Lloyd - being told off by the referee for needlessly punting the opposition match ball into the Trelai undergrowth when under no pressure in the 3-1 final game win away to Cathays United.
3rd: Khal Khan - suffering a heart scare in training.
THE 100 CLUB INDUCTEE
Winner: Ed Lewis (103 starts and 1 substitute appearance)
